Rosecomb Thread

Pics
WOW, Briarpatch! very nice. I wish her a long life and you to receive many wonderful babies from her.

I have about 50 chicks so far.. had a bad bout with infertility earlier in the season. I can't wait to see what I have. I know I have a good many comb defects.. I'm assuming that is from mixing of the two lines. I experienced this before a couple of years ago when I introduced a hen from Rick Hare. I'll try to post some pics of the nicer ones soon.

Matt, the Bennetts are my "friends" on Facebook. I think you are too? Try contacting them that way.

can we bring this thread back to life i've got a pair of blacks they are my favorite they are still young but i would like to here more about the breed and hear about everyone elses experiences with them ill post pics of mine tomorrow

Where was this thread the other day when I was looking for it?
who has a very well typed Wheaton Rosecomb... Type, Type, Type.. color I would like to aquire 2 trios by mid next summer, did I mention Type

I have a pair that I bought last spring at a swap meet. The hen has laid an egg nearly every day since then (even one on the day I bought her) and almost all have been fertile.

ETA: I know the earlobes can definitely be improved. I've planned a line breeding scheme, and the fact that this pair are so fertile will help that scheme a lot!

I'd like to know that too. I searched a good two years.. found a few others looking and only 2 breeders with them... both originated from the same birds which popped up out of bbreds, I believe some 10years ago. I am currently outcrossing them to black.. plan to breed the offspring together next spring as only a couple birds out of 30 some made and decent improvement. Mine have decent bodies but extremely poor heads.

If you find any, holler

I can definetly let you know if I find a few good wheatons, I really would like to find at least 1 trio, 1 to keep clean as wheaton, the other for Columbian.. The real nice part with a columbian over wheaton cross is all teh pullets are columbian, the cockrells are slightly golden in hackle and saddle but easily cleaned up in the next generation. I figure it would take 3-5 generations to get a head and comb back on the birds but well worth the effort.

in teh event you end up with a few nice pullets I would appreciate it if you would let me know. I notice there are a total of 26 accepted varieties but seems black is the only one that can be found that is of real good type.

I also notice the wheaton appear to be wild type wheaton (striped hackles) rather than exhibition wheaton, is that common for teh rosecomb?
