Rosecomb Thread

I look forward to getting a good start in Rosecomb this fall. Black of course, Blue and Splash hoping to locate a trio of Wheaton. With the Wheaton I plan to work with them to produce Columbian as I have them in OE and the Columbian x wheaton will produce all with the columbian appearance in the F1 then F2 some Silver wheaton and wheaton as well as Columbian.
It will be nice to have columbian in yet another breed that the kids can show yet be in a different class.

I have noticed all the wheaton Rosecomb I have seen are wild type wheaton rather than exhibition wheaton is this common for the breed or am I just seeing color culls?

My lines are strictly Rick, I have one blue hen from Erin Moshier on here. Pos #20 on this thread shows my original quad I got from Rick that got me started.

I got my first pair of rosecombs a month ago...so I know next to nothing about them except the roo seems to be very protective of his hen. I am trying to decide to keep them or not, Kinda one of those things where I have 4 other breeds I am working on so do I need another.

They look to be fairly good quality but as I said..the breed is new to me.
Here are a couple pics. I have not been able to get as close as I want due to my overprotective roo.

odd, as my roo has never been aggressive at all. i think they are a neat breed, and hope to work with them again when i can have in a pen or yard outside, or just figure out what to do with the ones i have and maybe keep few on my balcony with rest of critters were neighbors cant shoot at them with pellet guns (were they had to have a room for so long, with how many i had of bigger ones, so just kept all together). good luck with them, and let me know how they do.

Your biggest problem is that they do not have "rose combs"

All other problems fall behind that .... if you are interested in working with them, you would absolutely need to purchase some new birds. Enjoy them as backyard banties

i wasnt going to mention that.. but was going to suggest maybe they had spanish white face bantam in them, as they seem to have many traits, especially the temper of the roo, as said and apparent skittishness of them (my rosecombs are hams and i cant get pics, cause they just look like smushy faces against the cam).
