i didnt mean anything bad by it, as selling even is fine, but its just so many are "bred" by so many and sold as best there is around here especially and in other places seen on here. i love the other colors, dont get me wrong, but to newbies, seeing a perfect pair, then trying to find some like them around after, and only finding horrible mutt crosses passed of as, if even have true bantam rosecomb in them, is disheartening. especially when i talk up the breed when others looking for those qualities, or have seen and handled my cock i had, then go try to find others and then say how they are bad birds. heck the best bird i could find around here was a OEGB hen, closest to my cock, course she looked like she could have had rosecomb in her with her almost rosecomb and lobes etc, she was a horrible layer unlike other OEGB hens that looked totally different.
it just gets to be what was a standard developed, keeps changing, when the name of new could just be added to or changed slightly. for instance the first example is fantail pigeons everyone loved as young children, but nowadays the standard has them so weak and sickly, that they look hideously diseased runts that can hardly walk or stand, and seem to have trouble even eating or holding heads up. cant there just be added dates to new standard and show all as some want to "progress" on classic breeds? ive seen this a lot in chickens also and now some look up old stuff on the heritage breeds and wonder why theyre all so sickly and just basically all otherwise useless show cage birds.
anyone old enough to remember before you had to constantly feed special chemical feeds and antibiotic and give all sorts of shots to birds that actually were able to be let out loose, and wouldnt die from exposure to a gentle breeze? when having an animal was more than just keeping it in tiny show cages to do nothing more than breed, with assistance?
