Rosecomb Thread

Good to know, I know from Wyandotte and sebright I always had to add to them to keep fertility and hatchability up real good. It is nice to know these will not require as much input.
they are little dolls, and will finish out well with a little more time, they are acting much better today and will be handled at least twice a day so to get even more comfortable.
teh trio is in a 27x30 hole in my 6 hole indoor conditioning pen. They will likely stay there this year. well protected from predators, weather and eveything else.

That little cockerel is a hoot, he is always a talking. My rosecombs are always talking, maybe its because I have a radio playing on a station that all they do is tell jokes, and sing funny little songs, and have comedians on.

I hope the girls are starting to show their tails, but that one little girls is still younger than the other pullet by about 3 weeks or so.

I will have to get some wheat germ and cod liver oil, and mix some up. Did not know about feeding that.

That pen is about the size they were in here. Maybe a little narrower, but I don't have any thing to protect their feathers from the cage wire, guess I need to put up something.
My birds are all in doors, and all protected from varments, did dispatch a coon last nite, My Great Pyrenesse startes raising cane and I looked over when they started running, and seen the coon go up a tree. So I did what needed to be done, I don't think he would have ever got to the barn though.

My DH is going to build me a new barn in the spring. I hope I can get everything set the way I want. I will be so glad to have my incubator, and hatcher out in the barn office area, along with my brooder and baby box, instead of having things in different areas. It is going to be so nice.

This one is a six hole 3 high 2 wide wood construction with wire in the back and wood doors with 1/2 in. hardware cloth.

I use A-frames that are 6 ft x 12 ft outside.

I have drawings (plans) for how to build these as 6, 9 or 12 hole pens if you would like I will gladly share them. I find them very cost effective and great for trio matings or show conditiong.
The last 6 hole we built cost us about $75 in material, The 9 hole was only about $90, and 12 ran us about $125 in materials. very simple using either OSB or Plywood, and 1x4 for a facing and door frames.

Been so busy, yes, I would love plans for the indoor show conditioning pens. I have made most of my breeding pens, and when I get my new barn, all indoor breeding pens will be twice as big as they are now. Just got to get the barn. My problem is the conditioning. Really don't know what I need size wise. Lost one of my blue/red hens this am. I don't know what happened, she was fine last night, when I checked at 10 pm. Bummer, may decide to get out of the blue/reds and just stay with my brown/reds. Do you need my email, or do you still have it. Guess the birds are settled in now?

I believe I have missplaced your e-mail, the pullets are really settling in very well, and my what nice birds they are, constantly showing now.. really liking them even more.

I am so glad, I will pm you with my email, I still have one more trio to sell. Guess I need to advertise them. Hopefully will have chicks from my avatar cock any day now. That trio, Rick even wants to buy some of those chicks. I think I am ready to start making a name in rosecombs now.

I will have a few more varieties to add to the shows before the year is out, Wheaton should arrive this fall in time for show season as well. That will let me produce Columbian very quickly. I may a line on some nice Barred as well.
I plan to hatch some from this trio straight about 40, then start with the Birchen Male over these two pullets, going for about 25-30
