Rotiserie Silkie - It's What's For Dinner

Quote:
I cooked him cause he's a chicken and was one of many extra roosters.
A few of my silkies came down with CRD (Chronic resp disorder). I had to
cull them all, even the remaining healthy ones, to protect my other and
future birds. I wasn't gonna waste any of them. I have a few more in
the freezer.

They were all around 6 months old, some younger.

This bird tasted real good. I just ate one breast and am waiting
for the rest to cool. The rub soaked in while it turned. Yum!!!

I've always cooked my extra roos, at least the ones I couldn't find homes
for.

Nope, don't worry. Kees took Phoebe and a few others. I lost one
of the whites to CRD. 1 or 2 of yours were culled when I culled my
entire silkie flock.

Whew... Sorry you had to cull.. Enjoy!! (I think)

well the inside looks just like a chicken.

...are you sure it tastes the same? does the black skin taste like regular skin? just wondering...

It tastes just like a chicken. The skin didn't crisp that much on this one.
Next time I may try fried silkie.

The breastmeat was excellent. I brined and aged the birds before
freezing. I wish I could find a 10 pound silkie. It would make a super
broiler.
