Rotiserie Silkie - It's What's For Dinner

I guess most people don't visit asain grocery stores and commonly see the silkies along with the other white chickens. Chicken is chicken. As expensive as the eggs are and the time and feed it takes to raise them I would just assume eat my lav and blue orp roosters as to give them to someone who has no clue what to do with them.

PC,

Man that looks good... I know I'm getting too into the raising of our babies tho as the Dad in me took over after looking at this realizing I could NEVER cook one of my guys - we'd have to have WWIII and I'd be eating twigs and berries instead...

We sat outside last night in lawn chairs near the run. The wife let everyone out to free range. Later I brought her a couple crackers with some triple cream brie and walnut pieces on it. The darned roosters at it all in no time. Just jumped up there and went to town... My wife laughing herself silly.... As you can see we only raise them, they run the show here. LOL

Funny thing your comment is, BigMike. The Alaska project took several selected groups and put them into the Alaska wilderness and they had to survive for 3 months mostly by their own means. About half way through vegetarains were wanting meat and eating it and those who said they could NEVER kill to eat gladly took up the rifle and hunted for meat to feed their group. It was a very interesting experiment and my husband and I had predicted the general outcome by the end of the first show.

I bet I'd be one of the "switchers" Maam... Thank Goodness I am in a position at the moment to keep our guys as pets only... It would pain me to no end to harm any of them. I had to cull a very sick hen last year and it was the most horrible thing I ever did in my life. I've seen war and such so coming from that I say what I say...

I understand about it being difficult. I have a couple of little cochin roo's (bantams) right now that I'm trying to give away but if they dont go I'll be eating chicken. It will be my first time doing the deed but I figure I have to learn at some point. I just wont do a bunny! I'd have to pay someone to do that for me and silkies run a close second in that extremly cute category. Hey Purplechicken wanna come to Ga for a barbque? LOL!

I understand. Many of my birds will never be eaten, unless my family
was starving. The bird in the rotiserie was one of many I knew would
end up being meat birds. Silkies are easy to get rid of and most of the
time I can find homes. Unfortunately my silkies had to be culled so wasting
them wasn't an option.
