I caught a pigeon I noticed had a rubber band wrapped around its leg. I cut off the rubber band, but I brought the pigeon home since its toes were turning black/purple.

Day 1: just removed the rubber band, minimal limping

Day 2: pigeon is limping more, toes are less purple but the foot and toes are swollen

Day 5: pigeon is limping less but the foot is turning purple

Day 6: pigeon is limping a lot less, using the foot, but it’s still purple and swollen

Is the whole foot going to need to be amputated? Do just the toes need to be amputated? Or should I leave the foot alone entirely?
Is the foot infected? Anything else I should do?

Please do not amputate at home. You need a sterile environment, sedation, pain meds and antibiotics to do it humanely. Please bring this bird to an avian
I’m no medical expert but it does indeed look dead. If amputation is the clean and kind way to get rid of it…yes.
Should the foot be amputated?

The foot should fall off on its own. Amputations are ugly but i don't really see what y'all mean. This foot has all the right markers for an easy break away.

I wish I could. Unfortunately the nearest avian vet is very far from where I live.
