Rubber for lining floor of chicken coop?

And if anyone is new to it, it is safe if the chickens eat it and it's compostable.

I am going to build a new coop beginning next week and was looking at Black Jack 57 as a floor and wall coating option. I thought about linoleum too, but would still need to seal the floor where it meets the walls, and then you have the adhesive and cutting to size, so I figure I might as well use the rubber coat and be done. I've even thought of using tub-surround material for the inside walls, lol. Na, just gonna use rubber seal paint, I think.

Rubber (horse) stall mats at TSC. Weighty enough to lay flat without scrunching up, textured, not slick, can be easier on the feet when chickens land (chickens like to jump down from stuff!). They can be removed and hosed off for annual cleanouts if needed. Cut to size with exacto knife or similar knife. You can use sand over the top of them.

If you want rubberized paint, Black Jack 57 is the one folks on here use.

I picked up a can of liquid rubber polyurethane deck coating on amazon, it was brown and on sale and would cover the entire space I wanted and then some. It’s non toxic once dry, and can be used in ponds and things so I thought it might work nicely. And it sure did! I put 3 thick coats down, on the floor and up the walls as a backsplash behind the roosts. My coop is small but it amounted to about 60 square feet of paint or so. Painted the entire quail house too (it’s little, 2’ x 2’ but I painted it inside and out with at least 2 coats, maybe closer to 2.5 coats lol) and still had almost half a can left over. It’s nice because it’s waterproof, easy to clean, went on smooth and is holding up well. I painted everything this past spring and it looks the same as the day I did it, aside from the dried poo that I keep forgetting to scrape off the wall.

Awesome, I may be looking at that over cheap linoleum, or do Black Jack 57 first to waterproof, then a piece of linoleum on top to be able to pull outside and scrub. Hmmm... choices...

So, It may be 4 weeks or so before I get my new barn coop. It won't be warm enough to use BJ 75 until probably late March. Do you think I could use linoleum to get my chickens in sooner, then clean it all out and do the black jack later when it warms up?
