Ruby’s Toe is Broken & Possible Ascites

Are you hearing respiratory sounds? Do you know if she's laying
She’s definitely limping. I went ahead and dosed her hoping it will help her get through the rest of the day while I’m not here.

I am concerned it’s something else, though, as I’m not sure if she’s laying. The best boa she goes to has Cashew’s feathers in it.
Yeah I would splint it tomorrow if its hurting.

I don't know about ibuprofen, but I know you can administer baby aspirin.

Dose for chickens: Approx. 25 mg per pound of chicken's body weight each day. Examples: For a 6-lb. Fowl, give 1 baby aspirin or 1/4 of a regular aspirin. I personally prefer baby aspirin as it's usually buffered well and they seem to fall apart better once wet (less coating), so the medicine starts working faster.

Why not pop a calcium tablet into her beak? If she's got a problem egg, the calcium has a good chance of helping her expel it. I did this just yesterday with a hen I noticed out of the corner of my eye was not behaving like herself. A sort time after I gave her the calcium, she popped an egg out in the run. It was late in the day. This morning early she laid a shell-less egg in a nest box. She has a history of two eggs in 24 hours.

I just arrived at my destination. I’m worried Ruby has something else going on, which alerted me to her toe. I wonder if she hurt more than her toe? Before I left, I took a quick look at her vent. It doesn’t look like a laying hen’s vent, but she’s been squatting g for awhile. She is lean across the breast, but always has been, but is a very muscular and strong bird. Anyone know if Buckeyes are especially muscular, typically?

That seems like a lot. This is what my references say:

I crushed a calcium citrate with D3 into egg yolk and she ate most of it. Will conti is with calcium if she seems like an egg issue.

Yes, very subtle respiratory sounds, but there’s a respiratory issue in my flock right now. I don’t know if she’s laying. I’m concerned about that. Seems to have her laying hormones, but I don’t think she’s laying eggs. I have two hens like that right now. Everyone else is laying. I thought I posted that her vent does not look like a laying hen’s and that she is not puckering/pulsing it, but can’t find the post. Had a quick look before I left. Will reassess tomorrow, since there’s nothing I can do tonight while I’m away. Why are these things always timed like this? I’m a total home body and love to just be in the yard with my hens and it seems every time one has an issue it’s during the odd time I’m away.
