My chicks have very ruffled and ugly feathers. I’m thinking it could be a sun deficiency because here in las vegas, it is 100+ degrees about every day so I didn’t take them outside until they were two weeks old. I took them outside because I noticed their feathers were starting to get ugly. They are now 4 weeks old and their feathers are still ruffled and ugly. They’ve been outside every day all day for two weeks. Is this a sun deficiency? How long until their feathers start recovering?

What type of chicks are they?

They need to be on chick starter until they are laying eggs. Then, a layer feed or all-flock with a dish of oyster shells

Welcome To BYC

Can you get a bad bag of chick starter and feed them that instead?

Diet can affect growth and feather quality, so likely you will begin to see some improvement once they are getting a nutritionally balanced chick starter.

edited because auto correct keeps spelling bag, "bad". :idunno
