Rumpless Orpington Gene?

These are my two lavender Orp roos. As you can see one has a classic rooster tail and one has no tail at all. No one is picking on him - he just never grew one. Is this common in orpingtons?
(Hens are also in the background for comparison. )

Ummmm No, however, there is a recessive mutation that can occur in some birds and I assume that's what you have...very interesting.
 
A picture of him standing normally would help, but he doesn't really look rumpless, just tail-less. Is he actually lacking a tail bone? Birds that are have a down-ward sloping build that I'm not seeing here.
 
I have a lavender orpington pullet that is shaping up to be rumpless, as well as a rumpless black orpington pullet... I was curious which is what brought me here.
