What is the best thing to put down in the run we have a high clay content in our area. I’ve read that sand or DE is best but others say straw or pine shavings. What is your opinion?

None of which you list will do much of a job.

Coarse wood chippings, from a tree trimmer are the best IMO&E.
You'd need space to store a big pile.
