*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

Hello all,

I've been pondering getting a duck or two lately. I'm mostly a chicken girl, but I've always had an attraction to ducks.

I went to pick up some pullets from a lady today... she offered me some ducks she had for sale... I thought good and hard about it, and figured I may as well give it a go... worst comes to worst, I'll find them a new home, but I don't think that will happen. We've all gotta start somewhere...

I've done lots of reading about ducks, and it all seems fairly straight forward, so I'm feeling fairly confident about it

So I've now got (what i'm told is) an Indian Runner duck and an Indian Runner X something unknown duck. They're both a light brown type of colour... I haven't had a great look at them though because its dark at the moment, so I can confirm that tomorrow My dad also figured he'd give ducks a go too, so he's got 3 that are younger... not sure if they're pure Indian runner's or not though... two of his are white, and one looks to be a dark chocolate colour. Not sure if they're ducks or drakes yet...

I'll get pics of them tomorrow... I think they're all gorgeous... I'm not particularly fussed on how good quality they are... just excited to have ducks

Congrats on your new ducks look forward to seeing them. Ducks have such great personality.

Congratulations and welcome to Duckdom! Just a note - you don't say if you are housing them together. Different ages, different groups . . . I would not put them together immediately.

Looking forward to photo's - I am guessing there may be Khaki Campbell in there somewhere. Just a guess.

My dad's younger ducks and my adult ones came from the same place and are used to being together, however we have separated them. My chooks are completely confused and quite scared of these new loud creatures :p I think in turn, that is stressing the ducks out a bit, but hopefully in time, things will calm down. They're currently chilling out in the chicken coop, all the chooks have come out now (its around 7:30am here) I think the ducks feel safer in the coop... when they were out, earlier, they were looking a bit stressed and were making a heck of a lot of noise! I'll leave them be, and hopefully they'll come out in their own time.
