*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

Hi I have 2 white runner ducks a male and a female.
My female has just started laying eggs she now has 7 in her nest but I haven't seen her sitting on them.
I have read a lot about them laying and I am worried they won't hatch on there own should I start taking them out or will she start sitting once she is finished laying? I would love babies

Welcome to BYC @TerriB90

It's hard to say if your Runner will brood. Some will some won't it all depends on the duck. Some on here have had their Runners sit and hatch and then turn out to be not so good mamas.[that can happen with any breed though] Let her finish building her clutch you can remove as many of the older dirtier eggs once she commits she won't care as long as she has some eggs to sit on. I'd mark the ones she is on now I put the date so I can keep up with the oldest and newest laid.

Lets see if @CyndiD can offer any advise she has had Runners brood and finish.

If she's not sitting on them she probably just likes laying there and has no intention of incubating them.

Maybe getting a duck that looks similar to peep (If you can find one) will cheer her up.

Runners don't always go broody, so if you want littles you may need to do the incubating. Please have a plan for what you will do with the extra drakes. That is typically a concern, because too many can cause serious problems in the flock especially with overmating the females. And ducklings are so cute!!!

Until you can get her a friend I'd go with the unbreakable mirror, she can interact with the duck in the mirror and make her feel not so alone. Very sorry she lost her mate.

Thank you Amiga I won't be keeping the ducklings I don't have enough room for more but I would love to have them around till they are old enough to go to new homes

If I am going to do the incubating is it too late? As some of the eggs have been there for a week will they be dead now?
