We live in small village in Bulgaria.
Life has hardly changed over the last 100 years. Local folk are not very animal welfare oriented.
Dogs chained up` no worries about flea/tick control...dog dies just get another!
Folks with summer homes in village get dog for summer and turf it out when they go to
city for winter. Strays can be a problem.
Poultry are often kept in small runs and NEVER cleaned out yet they thrive.
Every winter they cull the chooks and
buy new next spring.
My point is that we have only found one supplier of poultry food in town. Tried to find out about agriculural outlets on the WWW
but no luck. We buy a sack of mixed seeds and bags of grit (imported from Belgium) from the monthly animal market and what seems like
layers mash from the town shop. You cannot find pellets of any type.
The vet does not know of anywhere.
We currently have just one Runner (her buddy was killed)` 2 Geese (recent additions)` 3 Guinea Fowl` 2 males 1 femail` 1 Rooster rescued from a life of Cage Fighting` 1 chook (gone broody 3 days ago which we are happy about` we brought her as an egg from the UK and along with the Runner the only survivor of the hatchlings from eggs we brought) and 7 chooks bought at the market as point of lay but we only get 3 chook eggs a day and one of those was from Miss Marple...the English immigrant!
We were feeding as filler pasta and rice (potato#s are expensive). Then we read pasta and rice are bad foods` sometimes we give bread as a treat.
So we are struggling a bit to find a balanced diet for the Geese and now Duck as we stopped the rice and pastaq I earlier asked about bleeding from the Runners nostrils however (correct me if I am wrong) I do not think that diet would affect her nostrils unless it was something sharp.
I guess it is obvious we are novices and we want our flock to be healthy and happy!
Thankyou for reading.
