we sure did. He made great chicken and dumplings

my grandmother never waisted any thing. The rooster got the grandkids one too many times and we was all invited over for dinner.

lol They do make good chicken an dumpling . I love my roos but they have to be behaved to get to stay alive.

Anyways what is the best time to let my ducks out of the coop now that they are laying. My hubby says with what he has found on the Internet 10am. To me that keeps them out of the sun to much. Any ideas? I let them out as soon as there is enough light out that I can see what I am doing.

Been getting two eggs a day now. One white one a light green. I have 8 girls and 6 boys.

I let mine out around 7am now that it is dark longer if any have to lay after they are let out they just go back inside their house.

Ok I just had my first cooked duck eggs. I have gotten 10 so far in 4 days.

Fist thing I noticed is the shell is not so easily cracked. No one had cracking these babies open. Next they are heavy. I started scrambling them right off I could tell the yolks are more dense I guess you could say. I cooked with up like I would scrambled chicken eggs. I noticed had this small white dot on them. Is that a sign of fertilizEd egg and or life???

Any way the verdict is in. They taste like a egg. I really don't taste much different between chicken and ducks. Could that be they are first eggs layed or there diet??

I will not eat all 10 scrambled eggs mind you. My dogs (4) are waiting for a taste.
I'm drying out the shells then I'm going to mash them and give them to the ducks with there daily snack.
I think I will like duck eggs. Eating a little at a time. Making sure I'm not allergic. Yes I'm smart some times.

I agree - to me, my ducks' eggs taste like very fresh eggs. Not much different from fresh chicken eggs.


The white dot is something else - not a sign of fertilization, if I understand correctly.

Nesting boxes or no nesting boxes. I need your thoughts on this please.

I've used nesting boxes and they're great because if your ducks lay in them because you'll know where the eggs are, you'll have to teach your girls to lay in them, though, by putting a fake egg. I currently don't have any nesting boxes. My ducks just use a nest they make in the hay, (Though sometimes some of them decide to just lay outside in the dirt

) which is fine, unless they decide to make a new nest or bury their eggs REALLY deep, so that it becomes an egg hunt. But really It usaully pretty easy to find them all since they tend to lay in the same place. Also, don't hatch any eggs till the ducks (drakes included) are at least 7 months, it's hard to wait but it makes for a better hatch.

Hi I have 2 white runner ducks a male and a female.
My female has just started laying eggs she now has 7 in her nest but I haven't seen her sitting on them.
I have read a lot about them laying and I am worried they won't hatch on there own should I start taking them out or will she start sitting once she is finished laying? I would love babies
