No, wait- I can’t think like that.” All the emotions she had felt for the past few days welled up and spilled over like a leaf in a rainstorm, but the words that tumbled out of her mouth didn’t make any sense. Her mood received yet another change as she felt the kits squirm.

Aspenkit pounced as far as he could but overshot the leap.

Rosethorn curled his tail around her comfortingly and licked her soothingly as she babbled

Blackblood purred in amusement. "I'm kind of happy you overshot." He assured the kit. "It gives me an idea of what you are cable of when I see how far you can pounce. This time, though, try a more controlled leap and land on the leaf instead of showing me how strong your legs are." He advised

“Okay, I think I’m done,” she said at last, looking up gratefully. “I still can never seem to quiet down.”

Aspenkit nodded and concentrated hard, pouncing and this time landing on the leaf.

“Thanks,” she repeated, licking him back. Then she winced. “Why do they always start training right when I settle down?”

“I did it!” he exclaimed happily

He laughed. "They're going to be fine little warriors."

"Yes, you did." He purred."That's all for tonight, I'll let you have your sleep so you'll be ready for tomorrow." He licked Aspenkits cheek and then Aspenkit was in his nest again

Snowfrost grunted in agreement. “With all this practice they’ll have mastered all the fighting skills they’ll ever need before they’re apprenticed.”

Aspenkit cuddled up to Sunstrike and fell back asleep.

“I don’t know. Whiteshine didn’t warn me!” she teased. “But then again, how I acted when I was a kit should pretty much speak for itself... I think I’ll apologize to Whiteshine later.”

Aspenkit slept through the rest of the night without dreams.

Lilyflight lay awake in the cold, dank forest, unable to sleep.

He laughed good-naturedly. "We used to stay up all night playing which kept her up!"

Beetlepaw visited her once and brought her more food and nesting materials
