Yes, very good looking birds. I really like the Orloffs! I sometimes have picking problems with other breeds. Never had that problem with the Orloffs! And when I combined 3 younger birds with a group of older ones for breeding, there was hardly a ruffled feather. More like 'hi, who are you, glad you joined the group' instead of a lot of chasing around like other breeds. They are the best personality of any I've had.

This is my 8 month old pullet. She needs a lot more spangling, but I am really impressed with her size. She's not necessarily very heavy but she's just big!

Oh, and this pullet is still not laying. Is it normal for them to mature this late? Even the brahma she was raised with is 2 months ahead of her...

I have 4 of them at 6 months and 2 are laying and 2 are not just the way the clock works

Prestonc- my girls didn't start laying until 1 day after they turned nine months old. The last one to start laying was ten days later. I had read that for this breed it would be between 7 and 9 months old but some start at 5 months. The wait could drive ya crazy but once they start they are really good layers.
@gander007 Have you ever heard of registering a chicken? I know chickens can have pedigrees done and you 'register' for shows but what about being able to register a chicken like people do dogs? I had a person call and ask about it because they were told by someone trying to sell Russian Orloffs that the asking price was high "because mine are registered because they are extinct." Lol, yep, he was told extinct RO's are registered!

Now I have never see of heard of such a thing but have asked and heard other's ask but never heard anyone state it before and I have only been dealing with Russian Orloff's for about 5 years now and just recently upgraded my stock due to bobcat attacks wile I was in the hospital last summer

The closest I came to something was when I started raising Geese in the late 90's and these Geese I paid $ 500 for the pair but they were magnificent in every detail and had won many awards at different Fairs the Summer of 1998 and I bought them in Paso Robles Fair Grounds and that was one of the questions I had for the owner at the time and he and his wife about died laughing with the response of the time well with these new printers you can print anything you want

top is 16 week old frim different stock than the 10 month old on bottom.

The lighting for the pic makes the 16 week old look darker than it is. They have more of an actual brown color but tons of spangling whereas the 10 month olds have a dark brown mahogany color and not much spangling for their age. I am so glad the 'after molt difference' pics were put on here for reference!
