Russian Orloffs

Holly there are a number of reputable and reasonable breeders/keepers through the Orloff web page on FB. Its the Russian Orloffs of US and Canada... maybe see you in there? :)

Yup, I'm finally in the group! (Took me forever to get on Facebook.) In less than a month and I'll be ready to expand my currently non-Orloff flock. I even found the right box with all my chick stuff.

DH and I have been working hard on the new chicken-port. It used to be a carport, so we took 3 inches of hardpan dirt out of it and replaced it with shredded leaves, leftover mulch and dry grass clippings. We also put in a few branches for the chickens to play on.

Next we need to paint the posts, put up the livestock panels on the ends, and then build the comfrey bed. DH calls it the chicken paradise.

I'll just be glad when the run gets expanded by 400 square feet! I'm sure my chickens are tired of their temporary digs.

FridayYet glad to have you join us. We have a breeders list under the files tab which we updayte every three months. It will be updated next month. Looking forward to seeing pics of your Orloff when you get them :)

My birds decimated the Comfrey in no time. Good call there. They also loved the black eyed peas as forage... and the Fava beans... I lost a lot of beans last year. Today they were enjoying some pea sprouts.

I have a hard time with the FB navigation as well but its worth finding out who is breeding near you or willing to send you eggs from not too far away.

Yeah, I agree, the forum is MUCH easier to navigate than the facebook page. But I do like to share pictures on the facebook group. I'll be posting pics of my feeder/waterer I just made on there soon (assuming they actually work)

Aw, Well Slink you are certainly going to learn either way. And keep sharing pictures and asking questions. I also find this much much easier but the breadth of people in the FB is helpful and there are some really nice folks and some who are quite experienced with both chickens and Orloffs. Enthusiasts I think is what we are called :)

I like the forum much better here too, but there is so much more info on FB. Even though I'm lost over there, I've been able to figure out where some breeders are

(That makes it a bit easier to avoid the chick bins at the feed store.)

This area is so much better for conversations and "lessons" though, and I appreciate all the pictures that have been posted and all the critiques of the good and bad points of the birds. You guys are great!

Well for me to say that I cant stand FB is really unfair. I just cant navigate FB. The problem is really me. I just get frustrated and give up!!

That was me too... and still is most days. The reality is that reality is better and when it comes to computers if it isn't easier than talking to real folks then... well, its easy for me to give up. I also don't like the grandeur of it or the fake people or the things that I can see in real folks but know how to navigate better when they are in front of me giving off "the vibe" that means they are full of crap or mean or whatever.

Got a line on some birds for yourself yet?
