So we knocked the clutches down from 55 to 30. The 30 are definitely developing chicks; at many stages!!! This morning I went out to check again and picked in the fresh eggs. No baby chicks in the broody mama boxes so came back in and was going to have a little breakfast. I cracked open one of the fresh eggs and all I could do was cry! At some point, one of the developing eggs was pushed out of the nesting box for some reason; when I gathered they were all cooler to the touch. There was a fully developed, feathered baby 😭😭😭😭😭 I just pray we get some live chicks out of what’s left under the mamas!! Why would it have been over 5 feet away from the nesting boxes where the broody mamas are laying?

Aww that’s heartbreaking, I’m so sorry. She might’ve sensed that the chick had died, and pushed it away
