Sad Day.

sorry for your loss

Thank you!

Oh DylansMom, so sorry. He was a very handsome boy! No shame in grieving for a family member...

It's especially hard to have beloved pets injure or kill each other...

can't blame them for acting true to their natures, and some differences just aren't reconcilable. You did your best to keep them safe, he just behaved like a hard-headed rooster, and she behaved like a turkey who didn't want to lose her food... and you just can't foresee and forestall every possible conflict. He probably enjoyed his freedom very much.

Thanks so much, this is exactly what was running through my head all evening. I have these chickens as pets more than anything, the occasional egg is a bonus. I wanted them to have as good a life as possible and to be totally free range, so of course I worry about foxes and hawks all the time, and my Turkey turns around and takes one out.

I know he had it made here and he was happy so that is a consolation.

I feel your pain Mindy.

It is funny how we will get attached to some animals much more than others. To this day I can only barely accept the idea of getting another dog and it has been ten years since I lost my last one. I think it is their total dependency upon us that makes losing them feel like we let them down and it is our fault.

Bill, I had a very beloved Rottweiler 20 years ago, he went from perfectly healthy to dead inside of a week. He was 4.5 years old and contracted ITP, which people will get occasionally, it is auto-immune. We tried everything including nuclear meds from the local people hospital, but to no avail. Broke my heart and I would cry out of the blue for a year afterward. Since then I have had many dogs, but none has been able to break thru the protective scab I think has formed on said heart. Much as I try I just do not get as attached to them as I did to him. It is not done on purpose and I still mourn each loss, but not like that, so I understand exactly how you feel.

What kind of turkey do you have

Turtee is a BBW that we rescued after she escaped from a slaughterhouse. She was destined to be someone's Thanksgiving dinner in 2005, but she is still with us.

She is probably 30-35 lbs. If I could use photo shop like @new 2 pfowl I would put her in prison stripes!

How very pretty! I am going to have to probably limit myself to hens, eggs, or chicks but the peacocks are so pretty! I have to remember I am in town now and only have an acre. :(

I had not seen your new beauty. Wow! Love his coloring.

You are going to love him! Mine, not pied, is the most beautiful bird on the ranch. He also has the longest train at the moment.

Thanks guys, he really is a beautiful boy, but I wish he were friendlier. He was not socialized much, so the minute he sees us he is pacing and trying to find an escape route.
