My dad's bird-dog Labrador got loose today and came over to our coops and snagged our sick, struggling guinea. It had been hanging in there despite some major disability, continuing to eat and drink and hobble around as best it could, and it seemed as if it was making some slow progress toward recovery (seemed like mobility was better and maybe some weight was coming back on)... And now it has been eaten. Apparently the other birds managed to scatter and stay safe - they are all accounted for. Poor, poor sick bird :-( But I guess maybe the dog saved us the sad decision of euthanasia if it was suffering once cold weather arrived and it was unable to perch with the flock to stay warm... *sigh*
