Sad looking little TSC chicks need your help!

I don't mean to take over this thread, but this is exactly what I am hearing out of my chick, the popping noise when it breathes. Where do I get this broad spectrum antibiotic?

We have a store called farm and fleet up here that has it. I bet any local feed and supply store might have it. Mine came in a packet of powder meant to treat like 300 gallons of water but I use 1/2 tablespoon per gallon. I used agrimycin-343. There are other names too.

OK...I'll try our local feed store tomorrow morning. I wonder if it's safe to give to other chicks that are healthy. I'm so sorry about your experience at TSC. I try to only buy chicks from our local small town feed store for that very reason. Thanks for your help with the med.

mother o' chicks72 :

did the little white one make it?

No, sadly I lost her around 3 this morning. She was a fighter though. On a positive note, I have 5 little fluffy chubby chicks left that are very perky and dont show any signs of illness or anything. Hopefully all will go well.

Folks please, please , please.

You have got realize that stress can kill just as fast a anything. These chicks most likely were just worn out. Of course they won't open their eyes. Would you if you were double dog tired? The reason folks put lights in the hen house is so the chickens stay up and eat, eat, eat.

These two should have been put in a dark warm place and allowed a few hours of sleep.

They most likely were tired and then folks go pushing food at them and vitamins at them and bam! They drop over dead.

The basic chick starter has everything they need. PERIOD! And clear , clean WATER. That's it. They do not come from the hatchery sick they come STRESSED!

In two years I lost only one chick and that was a day after it hatched.

I had two from the hatchery that were just like these two. I put them in a box by themselves with food and water and closed it over and let them rest for a couple of days checking on them every now and then. They came through just fine.

To much vitamins can cause KIDNEY failure.

Did you know stress can cause pasty butt. I have not had a case of pasty butt in any of my own incubation raised chicks. The only time I had it was when I bought my first 25 from a hatchery. Folks I think are killing chicks with kindness, fussin and treating them to death.

Please just the basic chick starter and water. That's all they need. For heavens sake they are babies. Let them sleep. Stop pokin and prodin and ohh here have some treats.

First, I'm so sorry you lost so many of your rescues. You have a great heart! I suspect Rancher Hicks is probably on to something...we all try so hard to do the right thing and maybe, sometimes, it's too much. Who knows in your case - maybe they were sickly maybe stressed. You did your best.

Second, I'd take all the dead chicks back to that store and rail on someone! At least get the money back that you should never have had to pay in the first place. Then I'd contact the head-honcho people as suggested by the employee in an earlier post. That was just inexcusable behavior on the part of the store clerk.

I hope the rest continue to do great!!

Your hostility and know-it-all attitude is not appreciated. I have had chicks my entire life and have never had pasty butt except for the ones that I HATCHED MYSELF. Just because you do things a certain way does not mean that you should belittle other people for doing it differently. There is a difference between a tired and stressed chick and a chick that just doesn't look right physically. If you cant contribute to a thread positively and in a helpful manor, perhaps you should not contribute at all. We are all on this site for advice and information and should not have to worry about people being hostile towards us when we post our questions.

In defense of Rancher Hicks....I didn't take the comments as hostile nor know-it-all. I took it only as probable sound advice. Of course, I'm not the person to whom the advice was directed so how I took it really doesn't matter...but I know often it is difficult to interpret someone's writing into "spoken" words with inflections, etc. I suspect it was meant only with the best of intentions.

Peace...

I went into my local TSC last Tuesday to just look at the peeps cuz i'm a newbie and am impatiently waiting for mine. There were about 8 tetra tint (i think that's what they were) running around and were so cute! I went back in on Thursday to peek at them again and was immediately mad! They were all laying o top of one another, had no heat, and their water and food containers were filthy! I immediately went to the manager and asked her if she knew about this and she did not. No one knew how long the light had been off because the breaker had tripped and all the electric on that side of the store was off. I stood there next to their bin til they got the light on and cleaned their containers out. The guy who they got to do it didn't seem too happy with me but I didn't really care. I mean, come on. These babies r so small and need to b taken care of. I went back into the store again on Saturday and they were gone. The manager told me they had been "sold" but I have my doubts! My nephew works for TSC so it's not like I am bashing them. They just need to take better care of animals they sell in their store!
