SADIE: Wing is off!!!! Pics

Hi Shelly, she still is growing and the band has been on since wed. morning. Snakeman checked her tonight when he got up and he said it looked like it should. He has had experience. The band is cutting so you can hardly see it. Snakeman said he would apply another band in the morning. The waiting is the worst. Hopefully it want be much longer.

puppy tails take 3-5 days usually to fall off depending on what u r useing but a wing is alot more meat so to speak and bone where as a pupy tail is more carlidge when youngest at days old. what is the band made of u r putting on her wing??

when i had to amputate my silkie hen's feet last winter due to sever frostbite(she froze her feet solid in a open pan of water:rolleyes:) it took alot of time to work it's way off naturally about 3 weeks mabe more and i still had to amputate due to the bones had to be broken to remove the dead tissue, then it still had to mend over still afterwards. when snow had infection on the dieing parts i used bagbalm salve and cotton and tapped both her feet plus she was on tylan injections wich is an antibiotic. the salve helped to use as a drawing out salve and helped greatly. once there was no drainage i left the bandages dry. it may just take ur girl some time as it did for my snowbaby be stong and hang in there.

prayers to u and ur baby girl!

OMG, how is your snowbaby now? How did you make it for the three weeks+ it took. Her band which is a rubber band[that is what the vet told us to use] has been on for three days now. I am going crazy waiting for her wing to come off. I will never make it that long.

Sadies water intake was down yesterday but today she has almost finished off her meds which is tetracycline added to the water. She also tore up some scrambled eggs and pineapple for breakfast. I was happy to see her eating this well. She didn't seem to eat much yesterday. I keep trying different things for her to eat. She needs her strength. I'm going to try peaches the next trip in.
Then maybe some oatmeal later.

The waiting is the worst. Prayers for Sadie please. Thanks

SARA

the last i knew she was doing great, i gave her away to someone who wanted her for a house pet and had more time to care for her.

i kept her for about 4mths after the frostbite hit. she had healed completely and infection cleared all she had left was little scabs that were almost healed. she had learned to walk slowly useing her wings for balance. i had to amputate her whole one foot and the other she lost 3/4 of it was all cause she sat in open water pan in winter to bath when i took the water in to thaw. she froze her feet solid in ice.

tiny round elastic cord works best from my experience u can get it in any fabric section even at walmart very cheap. u need to tie it tight so as it dies off that band of elastic gets tighter u shouldn't have to change it if done right and kept clean.

it was the worst 3 weeks of my life to be honest we both fought hard and my nerves were shot by the time i was done and she was to lonely. she cried to be in with the babies in the brooder, i tried letting her mom them but she's accidently killed a few of them. she was a silkie and u know how bad they want to be mommas, lol. i met someone that said if i knew of anyone who had handicaps to let them know and they would take them in. it killed me to part with her i was way to attached but they needed her and she needed someone full time so i gave her to her.

i filled bowls and left them in her tub right beside her so she could access anytime to eat and drink and then i gave her a treat bowl also. let her eat or drink anything that u can get her too. yep waiting and worrying is the worst and trust me i prayed all the time for her to pull through.

prayers for ur little one,
silkie

Update on Sadie: She is coming through all this wonderfully and is becoming herself more and more everyday. I couldn't be more happier for us at this time. She is one spoiled chick right now. I do want to thank everyone for all the pm's and e-mails and sorry I couldn't get back to everyone but I've had to spend my time getting my girl well and all you guys support has helped.

I'm working on Sadies new environment and carefully picking out her new companions. I will update on Sadie soon as I can and get
more pics. Prayers to everyone.

Pumpkinpup: Hang in there, it will get easier. I promise!!!! All my worrying has turned into happiness and it's going to happen for you too.

I don't know if it was alright to give this to Sadie but I did. She just tore up a plate of tuna fish and was looking for more I think. She is also dining on my antique MC Coy dishes.

Oh well she is my special girl. lol

Not yet but it is so close. The wing is totally dead and the color in her wing above the band is a wonderful yellow chicken skin color. We may have to help with the last little bit. I am estatic over her recovery. The wing doesn't bother her anymore, she is acting almost back to 100% and for sure there is nothing wrong with her appitite. Early on she didn't eat good one day so I have been trying to be creative with her food to get her strenth up and so far that has worked. Thank goodness, now breath.
