We bought a rooster at a local fair (on purpose) to help us to enlarge our flock by breeding him with our ladies. Then, we discovered another rooster hiding in a batch of hens we were gifted when he began to crow, too. Oh no! Two roosters and 23 hens. "Ok," thought I, "not horrible odds. Let's see how this does." The plan was to keep them both, so long as they could play nice. Then, we purchased 4 Americauna pullets, only two of
them turned out to be roosters, too! We kept the lot, figuring we would wait and see and eliminate any that became trouble. So far, I have to say, they are all darling lads and I am very glad to have them. Check out this link to see my boys and the rest of the story.

The upside, like we discovered, you may have some great guys if you handle them often, treat them kindly and gently,
and they choose to cooperate with that arrangement. If not, there is always the option of Sunday dinner.
Keep us posted!
