This morning i found out that Henrietta is a Henry, or Hank we're still deciding. This morning he started crowing :(

We have a farm that might take him, but we might have to keep him. im sooooo sad, beginners luck didnt work out for us, we bought pullets but of course WE got the only roo in that bucket.

If you think of any names or you like Hank or Henry please say!! :)

Henry comes to mind because he was FogHorn Leghorn's little chicken hawk nemesis I think :)
If you are going to keep him, show us a photo! Do you think he is manly or hennish?

I read the bright idea here yesterday to put a baby monitor in the coop so I can listen to them...and I stood there at Target in front of the monitors, and then didn't buy one. I'm still waiting to see if two of mine are roosters and I DON'T WANT TO KNOW! I want them to be hens soooo bad.

i can help if you want

my roo definatly has a rooster strut and is bigger than the hens

i am starting to see an up side, but i know 2 people who have roos that bully the hens. i love my girls and i dont want them to get hurt.

We bought a rooster at a local fair (on purpose) to help us to enlarge our flock by breeding him with our ladies. Then, we discovered another rooster hiding in a batch of hens we were gifted when he began to crow, too. Oh no! Two roosters and 23 hens. "Ok," thought I, "not horrible odds. Let's see how this does." The plan was to keep them both, so long as they could play nice. Then, we purchased 4 Americauna pullets, only two of them turned out to be roosters, too! We kept the lot, figuring we would wait and see and eliminate any that became trouble. So far, I have to say, they are all darling lads and I am very glad to have them. Check out this link to see my boys and the rest of the story. http://lallybrochfarms.blogspot.com/2012/04/meet-boys.html

The upside, like we discovered, you may have some great guys if you handle them often, treat them kindly and gently, and they choose to cooperate with that arrangement. If not, there is always the option of Sunday dinner.

when i try to pick him up he pecks me, violently. but when i do he actually likes it, which i guess is a good thing. we bought egg layers because we will not kill our animals to eat them. we believe they deserve a good long life. I know some one who's rooster beats up their hens, and i am hoping Henry is not like that.

i will keep you posted. i will update some photos of the little darling.

In this one you can see how different he is from the pullets. He has a weak crow for right now, and see has only crowed a few times, but for a beginner it sounds good.

They grow up so fast!!!!!!
