Said I Wouldn't Do It...Couldnt Resist.. Incubating CANDLED!

My Ameraucanas will be blue and/or black. My cockerel is black and the pullet is blue, so those are the color choices. Both are so pretty, I just love them, especially the green sheen in the black feathers.

Cynthia, Good luck. I love to see these hatching posts! I love your blue chickens. Your birds are just so pretty and healthy looking. I think Suede and a blue americana would make some nice babies. Personally, I'm considering getting a few silkies because I think mechanical incubating would cause me too much anxiety. again, the best and I know you'll keep us posted.

Woo hoo!!! Have fun!

It's stressful, but so amazing when they start to hatch!

heh, well, you need to make sure you have a large laying population, the list of people going for your eggs is long.. And will probably keep getting longer!

And I thought I was bad??!!!!! I wasn't going to hatch any more until spring either, then I went and ordered some Malaysian Serama eggs!!!!! I have some hatching this weekend and some to be set as soon as those are done. I tell you, it's a sickness.!!!

Cyn, how is the temperament of your Ameraucanas? I have a couple and they have started trying to kill one of my other hens. Between this behavior and the horribly nasty EE rooster. I love the way Ameraucanas look and the color of their eggs, but I'm not real thrilled with the temperament of the two that I have. Have you had any trouble with yours? Anybody else?

Oh, and in my last 2 hatches (very small hatches) I got all roos!!!!!!!!! ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

Well, mine are not with the main flock. In their own pen, I have my black cockerel, two blue pullets and my odd-girl-out Speckled Sussex girl, Nelda. They all get along great. My Blue Orp pullet who is the same age they are wants to be in with them, but I can't let her anymore now that she's laying age. They got along well with her.
Scout is a sweetheart of a boy so far. He's very young, just 23 weeks old, but I hope he'll stay just like he is now. I can catch him and hold him, although he isn't particularly fond of being caught. I think they're awesome, at least the bunch I have. One of the pullets is more flighty than the other. The other one is like a ragdoll, loves to be held.

Excellent! I love my blue Ameraucanas. I never had trouble with my EEs' or Ameraucanas' temperments, until this year. We had to cull 3 cockerels from this years hatch because of viciousness. No idea why. All the hens/pullets have been fine. Some are very sweet and lovey, some are more squirrley, but none of them are mean.

Cynthia: I may have to keep you in mind come spring when we're ready to do the chick thing again. I can never get enough nice blue (or black/splash) pullets.
