BIG HOLES & PEPPER FOREVER!

That's a pretty rant statement there!

Now Nifty, the only thing is- for the flow camp to work, you have to using regular table salt and that canned pepper stuff, which was ground months ago. Like store-bought eggs- OLD.

Now, I am a HUGE pepper fan, that's why I have a grinder- the fresher ground, the better!
And a salt dip/cellar with kosher or sea salt is much tastier! I add it when cooking, and sparingly at that.

Which makes the question a moot point! There is no right or wrong!

Salt = small holes

Pepper = large holes

I think too much salt comes out of the small holes and not enough pepper out of the large holes. I have the black and white cheap shakers. They have 3 types of holes, fancy! I use the one with the spout and pour it in my hand first, then sprinkle with my fingers. In Florida the restaurants put rice in the salt shakers (with small holes) so it doesn't turn into a brick, I think the rice would fall through the large holes onto your food, blech.

BEWARE: Never take the lids off the shakers at a restaurant. The salt & pepper go everywhere

. Do they ever clean those things?

This is so funny. I have a salt and pepper shaker that are almost never used. I always reach for the flip top-easy- to- get- a -pinch container of kosher salt, and pepper grinder.

pepper in bigger or more holes. don't want too much salt pouring out. in this house we don't use a salt shaker. i don't ad salt to anything, (can't say nothing, but not enough to say i do) when my mother comes over the first thing she does is looks for salt without even trying my food because she knows there isn't enough for her.

Rob - I can't even believe this is a family discussion for you.

Small holes: salt (you don't want to use much of it anyway)
Large holes: Regular pepper (better for seasoning, better for you.

PLUS:

Pepper Mill/Pepper Grinder: You can get fresh peppercorns, throw in chopped-up dried peppers from your garden, and voila! TRUE seasoning.

Flavorfully yours,
