San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

So my two Dominique's are 5 1/2 months old now and getting to the egg laying stage and have been acting...well, horny. Like my cat before she got fixed. They'll run over to me, get low to the ground, fluff themselves up and stick their booty in the air. Anybody else have hens that do this? These are my oldest in the flock and my first flock, just wondering if this is normal...or are they just weird? Thanks!
My birds do it all the time lol It's not so much that they're "horny" it's just them being submissive, they think you're their rooster lol

I've always read the questions people post about whether their chicks are going to be hens or Roos and here's a fun one. I have two SLW's (Y & Dot) that I got as two day old chicks and very quickly, Y started to grow a comb, uh oh. And then he became the dominant of the two, uh oh. And then he grew!! Way faster than Dot. I was absolutely convinced he was a roo until today at nearly 5 months he still refuses to crow and grow his boy feathers. Hmmm...

So after googling it, it turns out that while Wyandottes have a small rose comb, occasionally a single comb will pop up due to their old breeding. Ha! So today I got a hen without even realizing it. Anybody else see differing combs in their flock?

I have a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte that ended up with a single comb. He's a pretty boy, but he'll spend his life hanging out with the layer flock and not with the BLRW girls. Who knows, maybe I'll get some pretty layer birds from him. He's in the background in the first photo, around 3 months old.

I think he was about 4 months old in this photo

So I'm home for the weekend! Apparently, there may be a chance that one of ours hens was switched out for one of the neighbors since the flocks mixed by accident when they met in the middle of another neighbor's lawn. (Oops. Not my fault, my mother and cousin are in charge of 'em while I'm at college!)

Anyway, either the stolen hen or one of ours laid a few eggs.
