San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

It is a good thing that I am sick. I did not sit in front of the incubator chewing on my finger nails and wondering if I should help.

I am sitting in the same room and I can hear all of the commotion.

I guess it is okay to say now, I made ALOT of mistakes with this hatch. I did not feel as bad because no one else was involved otherwise I would have really been upset and kicked myself. The humidity was WAY Off. I could not stabilize it to save my life. So the way I solved it was switch incubators. So every time the humidity was off I switched it to one that was more stable. But while I did this, I forgot to plug in the auto turner. They were NOT turned for at least a day, maybe 2.

Then I shut off the water and then forgot and the TEMPS shot way up for who knows how long. Just alot of errors on my part. Why I am rambling about this is to show that these eggs are pretty darn resilient.

I am waiting on one more egg and I will have my very FIRST perfect hatch. OMG!

I knew that would get you

I knew it would not be the NN's when you let the scruffy BO & RIR go for it.

I resisted for the longest time. I saw pics of the parents and offspring of the Lavenders awhile back but I kept telling myself that I should not. In a moment of weakness, I emailed and she had an opening so I bought them. I told myself the same thing. I need eye candy.

I have a few more that I want then I am done. HA! Then I will put the incubators away and throw the key away.

Hang in there, Michele. Things have got to get better soon! Best of luck to your darling husband. My brother in law has been out of work for almost 3 years now, I think. He was in the pharma business and they lost their patent for a pain drug. That made it go generic and he lost his job. Along with about 500 others from the company.

Let us know how it works out.

I know I'll never forget this "recession."

Chickens definitely make things more entertaining!

Cari: That is fantastic news. Congratulations on that job!!!

Hi all,
I've got an interactive map ready for Meet-up location in Lake Murray.
I flagged the area I thought would be good, if there is not enough room on the day of - it will still be close to that spot and still within view of there.
There were TONS of ducks there when I went, some geese and even saw a muscovy. Should be entertaining for the kids (and us), they were walking right up to people and pulling on pant legs... lol

Here is the link for the meetup: http://mapq.st/dUZhdd
And
info for Lake Murray Park: http://www.mtrp.org/lake_murray.asp

Also
I sent code to Sunny to put the map directly on our website.

Cant wait to see you all!

That sounds good. That's my favorite spot on the lake because it has the most waterfowl. Most of the ducks, geese and coots will be in that area.

The muscovy's name is Tom and he is mostly blind and very old. There used to be more muscovies there, but they died about a year ago after living long lives there. Tom comes and goes out of that area depending on if he's hungry or tired. Many of the domestic ducks will be in that area in the morning, but move across the bay (past a fence) for most of the rest of the day.

There is a no feeding policy at that lake (they quote a hunting regulation saying that feeding is harassing the animals). So, if anyone plans to feed the ducks, please be discreet. So far, I haven't seen them say anything to anyone (except one person) unless it's causing a problem, but I'm mentioning it so that people can be aware. Mostly, they don't want people feeding them near the parking lot or the boat docks.
