It will be a while its not a matter of changing my mind.... Living here in town sixty miles away from where the chickens are is very problematic. I gave up trying when my last flock was destroyed by coyotes

the white line is my property line so the land is ELL shaped... and I can hear company coming about a mile and a half away
We got Bobcat, Mountain Lion, Coyotes, Feral Dogs (worse than coyotes), Desert Fox, and yep Raccoons... Thats just the four legged ones...
My neighbor watches over the place and when he goes walk about he carrys a cap and ball pistol on his hip... He killed two rattlesnakes near my house big enough to feed two people each. We both leave them alone pretty much but up close to the house is not good.
When I go back I will have dogs for predator duty... a good sized dog of just about any type is a deterrent but I want ones that are typically used around livestock... Queensland or Aussie or even Rotties...

Aussies were bred as Australian working dogs so should be ideal for a hot climate

No they are all short coated and do famously in the heat. Rottweilers are kind of laid back any way... The heat there is usually easier to bear because its about five to ten percent drier than down here. ITs really night time you have to worry about people.... and morning and evening for coyotes....

I believe if I am not mistaken Aussies are an American breed.... the Queenslands are the Australian working dogs... and you are right
both are excellent in the heat.
