I am still waiting patiently for my ladies to pay their way. I think it will be real soon.

I cannot wait. I am not thrilled eating store bought eggs even though they are Organic and cage free. Still do not taste all that great.

Oh Nancy, you're not getting eggs yet either? I thought I was the only one. Whenever we run out of store-bought eggs, I wait a few days - hoping - but still, nothing but golf balls. It will be an exciting day to get that first egg! I hope I stay excited about it, I want to be a chicken nerd as well as a crazy chicken lady.

Df- How many layers do you have? How many eggs do you get a week? Your eggs are beautiful!

ETA; Whenever I deworm my ladies I give the eggs to my dogs.

I feel it's better than throwing them out.

YES! I am still waiting. I have been getting eggs from the BO that I got from Allison but she has now gone on strike. She is vacationing with the RIR. I am waiting impatiently. Nah, I do not think it ever gets old. I get excited and I always thank the ladies.

I have not been all that impressed w/ the store bought Organic/Omega 3 eggs. I have noticed that the cage free has a nicer colored yolk than the Organic but nothing to write home about with the taste.

I guess I am spoiled.

My big girls are still laying well. I get on average, 2 eggs per day, with 3 layers. I have 3 more pullets that I'm waiting on patiently....BO, SLW, and Delaware, who are now exactly 6 months old.... The Delaware is in the same coop as my big girls. She doesn't like them, but my goal was to integrate all LF together. The SLW was terrified in there, and wasn't eating, or roosting, and that worried me. So she's keeping my little BO (the beat up one) company. They are getting along like peanut butter and jelly.

My favorite eggs right now, are from my little OEGB's. They are so tiny and cute!! I made little fried eggs with them the other night, they were almost too cute to eat. My two pullets are giving me about 4-5 a week between the two of them.

I'm excited about getting geese!! I've been poking around on the goose thread, getting input from people. It sounds like I should get a pair, not just a solo. So I'm thinking one big noisy one is fine, and I'll pick a quieter one for its buddy. It doesn't sound like breed matters, just species. The feed store said they'd special order them for me, but it might be May before they come. And that's okay, I have lots to do to prepare an area for them. I can wait.

Regarding the next meet up... I'm game anytime in April, March is kind of busy except for the last weekend. But why don't we plan it around the time we all might be needing another load of feed? So far, my chickens are happy with everything. I will probably run out of layer food by the end of the month. The scratch has been popular too. I usually work on Sundays, but with enough notice, I can possibly switch days with someone. Last minute changes are tough, though, because of that. Cara's friends' ranch sounds like fun. I'm in Escondido, and I'd be willing to get there early to set up, but I don't usually stay the whole time, so someone else would need to stay late to clean up.

Cara- my kids are willing to snuggle your babies anytime :) I'll send you some pics of my baby in a couple weeks, so you can see how she's grown. Baby Cocopops? oh my!! Those are going to be quite a sight!! Can you post any pics of your trio yet?

Nancy & Michelle- I say we give our non laying pullets one more month, before we start leaving some "strong" hints around the coop....like forks and knives.

Df (Dana right?)- Gorgeous eggs!!! WOW. I so badly want a blue egg layer. What beautiful packaging you do!

Cari- how are all those babies doing? Any brooder parties yet?

Newbee- Are your silkies taking over the place yet? or still behaving themselves?

Welcome new folks!! I hope you can make it to the next meet up!

Awwww... thanks, you guys! My friends went nuts for the eggs yesterday.

I think I have eight or nine layers now. I have four girls who have been laying since last October (2 Barred Rocks, and EE and a Faverolle) plus a bunch that just started in the last few weeks (2 more barred rocks, a white rock, a speckled sussex, a cochin, and a wyandotte). I can't tell who's laying what in the new group. (I also have three polish/sultan that aren't laying yet.) I really need to get myself some sort of egg basket since I run out of pocket/hand space.

If and when my ladies start laying, I am dreaming about buying one of those rubberized egg baskets. I want one with a BIG opening. I have some wire baskets from Ikea I think and the opening is too small. Could be a good thing when you have 4 dogs that LOVE eggs.

I think with Easter coming up, I have seen lots of different kind of baskets everywhere.
