Where can you find a good deal on mealworms here in San Diego?

I'd love to host a chicken meet up at my place but it would have to be after the winds stop blowing, which at my place is Oct-May. I'm in Julian.

I don't feed my chickens mealworms so I am not sure, but I think I saw someone selling it in the farm section of CL.

I heard there is snow in them mountains this time of year, I would like to see chickens running in snow first hand one of these days.

Me too, I have tons of questions about chickens and snow.... lol

I have to find a home for some extra silkie roos if anyone wants them, please let me know. One is white, the other is a dark partridge. They are both really friendly/tame, don't fight and are good with the kids and all sorts of pets. i just have too many. I don't want them eaten though and don't really want to weed out Craigslist people if I can help it.

Thanks Cari and Tigerrrrrrrlilly for the mealworm info. I'll check into them. Tigerrrrrrrrlilly, if you think your white silkie roo would be okay with another roo and 18 hens I'll take him. My EE roo is mellow...so far! My set up can handle one more, but they are mostly in the run & coop. I free range on occassion when I'm working out in the yard. Here's a pic of the run. Let me know if you think it'd work or be willing to try it out. If it doesn't work out I'd have to return him.

Just for fun, here's a pic of my house when we first bought it, in the snow.

I think he would be in heaven with 18 hens! lol
LALASD might want him, but if not I would definitely be willing to give it a try and take him back if it didn't work out. He is currently living with 9 roos so I think that won't be a problem. He holds his own, and doesn't bully anyone more than a peck here and there. Looks like plenty of room for him, he doesn't complain when I keep him cooped in much less space than that. Your coop is awesome.

. I am a hobby backyard breeder of mealies for my chickens.

But until we have the meeting, you can contact me. I am more towards the coast, but several times a week I go out to East County. Maybe we can meet somewhere.

Be careful with commercial breeders of mealworms: they treat their worms with chemicals and growth hormones, so the worms will not transform into the pupae or beetle stage. I do not support that. My chickens get 99% organic feed and so do my mealworms which I feed to my chickens.
