Sorry you haven't got any responses yet! BYC is slow this late on the day before Easter.

I would see if you can separate them into smaller groups like maybe 3 groups of 4, that way you can narrow it down pretty quickly who is doing the deed.

Also, I've heard that *some* breeds are more "nutritionally needy" than others (including Ameraucanas) So I always make sure I feed the good food and I add Vitamins and Electrolytes. I have one rooster that is/ was a feather picker, but since I did that it seems a lot better.

Also they probably won't grow out until she molts. I had two "rescue hens" that were partially bald and VERY ratty looking and they took like 4 months to FINALLY molt and replace their feathers with good looking ones.

Hope this helps a little!

Thanks Cari. My post OP is five days old so I figured I wasn't going to hear anything....You did help. I'll try to separate them, at least during the day, and see if I can figure out whose doing it. I'm thinking it's one of the EE's, but don't have proof as of yet. I thought maybe it was just a habit forming thing, like a person who bites their nails. They're looking pretty ratty these days. My beautiful australorps are looking like NN's more and more each day. Guess it's a good thing I think NN's are cute!

It *probably* is one of the AM's- they are prone to that. I would start by separating them first and watching.

Also, since you don't free-range, you can also try "enriching" their environment, think hanging cabbages, grass, hay, etc, so they don't get bored as easily.

Go for it!!! It is so cute to watch a Mama Hen with her little chicks. You cannot say that you have owned some chickens if you have never experienced a broody hen hatching some eggs and raising her chicks. Hey, and you know that we all LOVE to see baby chick photos. Good luck, ha: your Easter egg hunt is going to be a little different this year I guess. You are going to hunt for the right fertile eggs for your broody!

A Happy and Most Blessed Easter Morning to All You Beautiful, Crazy, Chicken People!

Here I go again wondering why I was so late to this get up.
I didn't get a chance to meet /talk to some of you.

Next time, I will be early for sure! I had ended up on the other side of the lake
wandering around a ball field (?).
Anyway, I want to thank all of you who where there, Cari did the gorilla portion of hefting
all those sacks of feed!
I tried to pick up my 4 sacks casually and toss them into back of my truck, (wasn't happening..)
I could explain it to carpal tunnel procedures and a knee arthro in the last couple weeks, or
the fact that I've been getting used to the "other" company's 40# bags, but I think I'm
just gettin old.
My friend Debbie who came is now a confirmed Serama lover and wants some of "Mighty's chicks,
you all really impressed her with your enthusiastic, friendly attitudes. We will be seeing more of her!

Anke, the chicks in the broody have never shown so much life as when I tossed a few meal worms
into them! Thanks!
Whoever made the Asian Noodle salad, I will trade a bag of my fresh roasted beans for that recipe!
Aw heck, I want to give you a bagabeans because I took home the leftovers and had it zapped with some
mushroom risotto! Dynamite! I still have some left over for today too! Thank you.

Can someone (Mom or Dad?) get a message to Jacob? I would like to discuss further his proposition concerning Buffer
visiting his Buff Silkie Hens. Wow! talk about a nice looking trio!

Renee, almost took a bite out of the soap on the way home! Do you take custom orders? I need some
Coffee Bean soap! (*non-staining tho..?)
Whoever made that chili, I doff my toque!

Be Well, Glenn

Glen -I made the chili but I don't know what that means!
