San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Your right those are the cutest little goat ever!

I am desperately seeking a replacement Salmon Favorelle Rooster, our roo has "disappeared" at the ranch. All his girls are accounted for and are in good health, but there is no sign of him. If anyone has a "extra" roo, the girls and I would really appreciate it. :D

The peach jam is delicious! inspired me to start canning, I have made pickles and salsa from our garden since the meet up. also working on my website, wish I knew more about building a website! Also selling off some of my flock so I can only raise pure breds in the future.
Glad you liked it. I wish my garden was still in full swing all I have left are peppers and a FEW tomatoes. cucs and rest of tomatoes are all fizzled out :(

Thank you so much guys for all the information! I already bookmarked it for DH lol. He always look at the $ prior purchasing or getting an animal... and he is right... I just follow my heart lol. I thought it would have cost more to have goats, so I am happy with what I read!
One more thing: when you purchase babies (females or wethers) do they also need to be tested for CAE, CL, Johnes or it only applies to adults?

You guys are serious farm enablers. I have wanted goats, but all this info makes me want them even more. Sigh...when we get more space. Technically we could have two right now, but we really don't have the room.

On a related "you people are enablers" note, my son sleeps with the stuffed animal chicken that was a raffle prize from the meetup. I think I have a chicken farmer in training. Lol.

Yeah I have eighteen acres yet my back yard is about 100 x 75 and my goats can touch all of the walls on the south facing side of the house. Not good for the house. Once I get my big roof up in the horse paddock I have planned a real house for them not just play structures. They will have a designated place for them in my yard but that will be fenced off so they cant mess with the house any more.

Did you Know:

Goats can explode a dog house by kneeling and walking inside on their Knees then standing up? (I saw that one it was pretty funny) If they can get their head and shoulders in they will go.

Goats can leap off a fifteen foot high rock onto the patio cover and fall through it that AND the Hammoc below and come up with only skinned knees..... All I saw was a red and white blur as Diego ran out the front gate. (this was before I had a goat proof fence up) Domino was up there still and looked at me like.... "What.... I told him not to do it."

The following happened after I moved back to the city to work and care for grandma.

Goats can open a sliding glass door to your bedroom?

Once open they can live in your bedroom a full TWO bleeping weeks before your roommate notices?

When the plumber forgets to latch the crawlspace under the house they will get under and re wire your phones?

FENCE... is good, Good fence gives you peace of mind.

LOL.... Yeah its funny now.... Brand new Cherry Sleigh bed and a Memory foam mattress... My bedroom is actually in what was the art studio from the previous owners. So for privacy I had up those paper stick on shades to cover the door. That was Yummmy.... I couldnt even look in for two years. and only this past year did I go in and pull the covers off the bed.... Not a single stain. O there was poo on the covers but the bed was untouched. And to my delight not a single scratch on the bed frame.

Little reprobates. But I do love my goats.
