San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Are any of the Isbars clearly pullets? I'm not in the position to set up breeding (boo

) but I have a broody with new chicks and it would be easy to sneak something 1 week or younger into the mix. I know that they are a breed in need of help, and I'd be willing to coordinate "play dates" with an Isbar roo. I'd also like the green eggs. My EE is getting on in age and lays very rarely.

I have a small handful of Black Copper Marans x Bantam Cochin/Modern Game chicks. All under 1 week old. They come from nicely brown eggs (not the darkest of the dark, but very pretty) and they could be a part of an Oliver Egger program. I'm fine keeping them, but I don't need them so I thought I'd offer. Free to BYCers.

Still checking the weather like a mad person. Despite the giant rain drops that are falling right now the weather reoprt is giving good indications that we should be precipitation free at about 10:00 am tomorrow. However, it will still be a bit cold. As such, I think we will change gears a bit and open up the garage for people who bring little chicks. (Just don't laugh at the seeminly random stuff on all the shelves - OK)

So, there will be protected space available for chicks and then we will have EZ up canopies set up as well. So, the show will go on. PM me if you still need the address.

To recap:

We will be having the event TOMORROW, Sat Feb. 9th at my house from 10:00 to about 2:00 pm or so.
There will be a raffle and potluck
Please feel free to bring your healthy chicks, chickens, hatching eggs, and any other homemade crafty things to sell and trade.
Kids, friends, neighbors, etc are all welcome!

I am looking forward to seeing you all!

Best,
Kristin

Thanks for being such a trooper and pushing through with this.

I promise I wont even look at the shelves in your garage.

I'm trying to envision this mix? Fluffy butts on stilts?

Not sure if you are referring to mine or Miriam's. I do not know how to sex them. They are suppose to be an Auto-sex but I do not see it. Some controversy about it. Also, not sure of the age of Miriam's. Mine are a week old and I would prefer to let them all go in a group. Straight run since I have no clue as to the sexes.

Isbars are not autosexing as far as I can determine. Actually not at all a breed in which you can determine sex early.

Seems that as they surfaced at the same time as legbars and rhodebars, the word went round incorrectly that they are also autosexing.

I would love the double yolkers (thanks!!) If they could come down with the roo that would be awesome!!

Also if anyone has fertile potential double yolkers please could I buy them??

I am looking forward to the Meet-up tomorrow. Perhaps someone would help me understand these posts better. Did someone loose all their chickens? If so, I'm so sorry. How? Where was it posted...tell me tomorrow (Sat in Poway)

You need to wait about 5-6 weeks to sex the Isbars with any degree of accuracy (beyond the ever-popular 50/50 guesstimate)...

With that said, they are a great breed, and I love 'em. Nancy, how many hatched out for you?

Hi Gang!

I would hate to miss the meet-up, but right now I am just not sure. I have a bunch of new coffee beans
I just roasted and have had a couple calls already bycers placing orders if I am coming..
The weather up here on Palomar is pretty snowy now, just came in from dealing with frozen waterers,
redoing tarps, shoring up coops for snow loads, etc etc..vaselined up the roo's combs to help with
potential frostbite..I am beat...don't know if I want to put on 4 chains to go 3 miles, than take em off
and put em on again when coming home.SHEESH!!
Have fun everyone..Renee, save me some of the fantastic goat cheese and lemon curd..soap
iffen you got any..

Glenn
