San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

This has been the strangest hatch for me. yesterday I noticed one of the chicks under the hen wasn't moving around very much. I decided to wait and check again this morning - the little thing has a broken leg! I'm baffled because I don't know what the heck it could have gotten up to that would break its leg, but the leg is clearly broken. I brought it in and after the 4th of 5th attempt got a manageable splint on. I am not a medic, that's for sure. The chick seems cheerful enough despite the injury, so I'm cautiously optimistic. On the other hand I don't want to get too attached in case things don't go well.

That's good to learn about the Isbars. The Greenfire website says they are autosexing. They are very pretty, regardless.

Hi Gang!

I would hate to miss the meet-up, but right now I am just not sure. I have a bunch of new coffee beans
I just roasted and have had a couple calls already bycers placing orders if I am coming..
The weather up here on Palomar is pretty snowy now, just came in from dealing with frozen waterers,
redoing tarps, shoring up coops for snow loads, etc etc..vaselined up the roo's combs to help with
potential frostbite..I am beat...don't know if I want to put on 4 chains to go 3 miles, than take em off
and put em on again when coming home.SHEESH!!
Have fun everyone..Renee, save me some of the fantastic goat cheese and lemon curd..soap
iffen you got any..

Glenn

Aww too bad we'll miss you this time around, been a long time!

Well, seeing as how I was just informed I can't get another goat, I took that to mean that more chicks are just fine

I am interested in expanding my egg color range. Initially I chose my chicks based on their lawn ornament ability, now I'm looking for the rainbow. I would be interested in ameraucanas, Copper Marans, legbars...basically anything that would give dark brown, olive, green or blue eggs!! I could take about....6-8 chicks?? or hatching eggs, I have an incubator I can borrow. Ive only been at this chicken thing for 7 months or so....I am still learning, but I DO know I am crazy about my chickens! Who knew they would be so much fun!! Looking forward to meeting you guys and learning lots!

I don't have chicks right now (I have 6 to 8 week old juvenile delinquents - ha!), but I do have fertile Marans eggs, F-1 & F-2 Olive Eggers and I will soon have Wheaten Ameraucana and Blue Isbar eggs.

I am hatching a bunch of Easter Eggers right now, the eggs vary from very blue to green. =)
