San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I've only ever had 1 Polish hen and it's a white crested. She seems just as smart as the rest of my hens.....unless all my hens are 'special'....

Same here! I have 3 old polish hens (7 yrs old now) and they free range and go broody and do all the same things the other ones do - I think sometimes the feathers get in the way of them seeing and probably makes them act stupid, though none of mine are any dumber than the rest. My game/rapa-nui?/Pacific Island type fowl are scary-smart though!

Here is a pic of the crested drake I would like to find a new home for

he is the one in the middle. If some one has a lonely girl duck or two.
I will ask my friend. She had 2 girls and the coyote got one so she wanted a mate for her. I gave her a drake and he has been in duck paradise but he is acting up. I think she said he is trying to mate the chickens too.

I may have to take him back so she may want another for Sunny (her female duck).

Kind of random and not chicken related, but is anyone have any upcoming puppy litters? Looking for a good mid size dog, people and chicken friendly.

They are mixed -A few years back there were people living near me who had an assortment of jungle fowl, games, ameraucauna, sumatras (maybe) and some rapa nui type fowl (south american island fowl) and they let them mix with ameraucaunas and domestics of various sorts... some got out and became wild, and my chickens are the descendents - so not pure rapa-nui, but a blend of exotic and games.... I have four of them that I collected as chicks... But darn, they are smart and agressive... If you have something they want, watch out! They snatch stuff right out of your hands... I used to have one that lived wild but figured out that if it snuck into my pen at night it was safe, so thats what it did. Where it was or what it did during the day, I don't know, but it roosted with my chickens every night until a hawk got it. They look like games with bluish-gray skin and black black eyes... They are partridge for the most part.

Hey MissusC, can we also sell items at the chicken booth? Other than chickens.

Ok, to anyone interested in the Earth Day Festival, please PM me. I got approval today for a backyard chicken table (or goats if you wanna) and you can sell related items (not quite sure what that would be) as long as you aren't advertising to the world that you are selling. The goal of this festival is mostly information and fundraising to start our community garden. Like I said before, I can supply a flyer (with lots of copies) with information about the local ordinances etc for our area. We have tables and if you don't have an ez up, we most likely can find you one.
