San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hi everyone. Anyone interested in white Muscovy Ducks? I'm probably going to order some ducklings, I want six but the minimum order is like 15, so I am going to have way too many. If anyone is interested i'll reserve you some, they are going to be $10, you can pay when they arrive. They will be sexed as well. Thanks!

I cant now but where are you ordering from?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but after moving out to Dulzura, I'm finding myself faced with gophers!!!!

Does anyone have any recommendations for safe control of gophers? I'm hesitant to use poisons since I don't want it getting into my local water table, nor do I want other wildlife or domestic pets being affected by consumption of a dead and poisoned gopher.

Thanks!

welcome to the country..... About the best defence for Vegetable Gardens is to dig down and put hardware cloth. This time of year with water and food all the rodents will be flourishing. Matter of fact rabbits will clean you out too. My neighbor raises his vegitables in a chicken wire inclosed cage. Sort of like a chicken run for veggies.

My dad used to work in orchards and he said the best way to get rid of them was to kill with a gopher trap and then bury the gopher back in the hole. As the gopher decays the other gophers will close of his tunnels. Trap and bury where you trap em. eventually you will drive them out of your yard. Doesnt work if you got dogs that like the smell of stinky gopher...

Thanks for the info Deb! I'm not too worried about veggie gardens yet. I haven't set any up, but I'm in the planning stages. I do eventually want to plant a few grape vines too and read that gophers loves grapevine roots which is pretty crummy. I ordered a few cinch traps. Hopefully these will help.

Hi all. If anyone is interested in Chocolate, Blue, Lilac, Buff, Silver (N/N), Lavender (l/l) and pastel Muscovies ducks. I have very small flock in Temecula Ca.
Currently I have a Blue hen about to go broody on a batch of eggs. The drake is Lilac. From this batch in about a month I should get some sex linked color ducklings. Brown,Buff and Lilac hens. Blue, Silver (N/N) and Black drakes. I also have some Lavender (l/l) Hens that are almost old enough to start laying. If you are interested in fertile eggs, ducklings or young adults, let me know.
These ducks have been raised with a lot of love and spoiled with fresh veggies, high quality pellets, and plenty of Mealworms. They are calm and friendly around people. For BYC people, eggs, pied hens and drakes would be free. It would be nice to have them go to fellow BYCers.

Sorry if this wasn't the place to post this. It seemed relevant to the thread.
Edited to fix n/n to N/N, I can never remember that right!

very nice and totally not off topicThis used to be a realllly chatty thread but Life happens... If you still have Muscovies in 2017ish I will be very interested. Not living at my home right now so its kind of hard to care for critters when they are sixty miles away
