Wow. Tigerrrrrlily, that is one gorgeous duck. I keep telling myself, "No ducks", but I can realy appreciate her beauty. Love the hairdo.
All this talk about Silkies got me thinking about the chickens we had when I was a kid. My mom and her girlfriend went to the feed store in Bonita to get dog food and came home with four silkie hens (Annabelle, Maybelle and Bluebelle) and a Rooster (Henry). My Dad was forced to build a chicken coop over the weekend. Of course, he did some research and found out that silkies really aren't known for large egg production....so seeing as he had a coop, he went out and got some RIRs, LHs, and BRs.. and then had to expand the coop. They still laugh about chicken math. This was back in the late 70's and I don't think too many folks had a backyard flock in suburban La Mesa!
Is anyone on this thread into gardening? I grow a lot of interesting tomatoes and other heirloom veggies from seed and usually have tons of seedlings to give away. Those seedlings won't be ready for the meetup, but I was wondering whether anyone might be interested in seed/plant exchange. I should have a bunch of tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, etc...in March timeframe. This is the first year I will have fortified chicken manure compost in my garden. I am so excited to see whether it makes a difference. I am sure it will.
I also have tons of succulents and blooming cactus. Please let me know if anyone at the meetup is interested and I will pot some up so they are ready for the meetup.
Happy Sunday all. We just moved our last kid out of the house yesterday, so I am sitting here enjoying peace and quiet and contemplating my empty nest
