Re: Stella's miraculous recovery - Yesterday morning her eyes were bright, but her legs and neck were limp as she lay collapsed in a heap, the other hens walking over her. I held her on my lap wrapped in a towel for warmth supporting her head, keeping her hydrated with Pedialyte. She was not showing any signs of improving & I was starting to plan for the dreaded next step, as I thought she'd starve herself to death. I was distraught and afraid to leave her to go to the store for vitamins that Lynn recommended.
When Tammy came over, she gave her a half dropper of GNC liquid B Complex (grey bottle). Literally within minutes she perked up & shortly after was lifting her head a bit and grabbing my finger with her toes. She also gave her Marvel-Aid, a liquid sulfa based antibiotic for birds. I can't remember if she gave her some multi-vitamin drops as well, or just left those for me to give her over the next few days (thank you thank you SOOOO much!
) About an hour later, Stella was eating crumbles and drinking on her own! This morning she was standing strong in the crate, head up, looking completely normal.
I don't know what was wrong with her, I would have sworn Marek's from the symptoms, especially the hurdler's stance. Maybe she ate something toxic or got some sort of bacterial infection? I don't know, but I also believe in the power of prayer, and I know Stella felt all those good thoughts out there for her
She's squawking at me now, because she wants to run around outside with her gal pals - but I want to keep her isolated a while longer to make sure she's fully recovered, although she honestly seems 100% today. I'm continuing today with B-12 tablets that I had, crushed up in some baby food added to the crumble. I'll keep you all posted on her progress!!!
