all this talk about broodies...

is this broody?

i also posted this in the chicken behaviors and egg laying forum, but wanted to ask you guys since this is the current topic.

she stayed in the nest box when i let the chickens out when i got home. made lots of noise. she had already laid earlier today. i even held out some meal worms for her, and she didn't budge.

maybe she is sick?

I made the mistake today to touch one of them and she made the oddest sound. She was so ticked off.

I'll she how she is tomorrow. Maybe this means we can get some chicks for her.

We've only had chickens for about a year, and I'd say this hen is about 7 months old. It is so interesting to watch all their different behaviors.

It seems our reds were afraid of heights until a few days ago. None of them would go up the ladder to the second level of the coop. Then just the other day one decided to go up there, and the others followed.

They are so funny

"Flower": PM sent. Thank You so much for the "Aloe Vera". That was so sweet of you to remember that I wanted some. "Sunny California" brought them down to SD today and the plants look great. They will be planted tomorrow.

"Sunny California": Thank You again for bringing down the plants to SD. It was fun to meet you again today and hopefully your chickens have already feasted on the mealworms.

"dfdesigns": It was fun to meet you and your boys today. I can imagine that all your new baby chicks will be very tame with all those mealworm treats.

And last but not least: Yes, the "broody" virus has also arrived in my chicken coops (and I do not have any more room........) My husband asked me if I was serious when I came home with some fertilized eggs from "Chef Glenn's" flock...... I do have three broodies right now, tried to break them ( for the peace in our house

)....., but will see. Thank You, Glenn. The broody virus can be nasty and it sure spreads fast, so careful fellow chicken lovers if you do not want a broody or "good luck" to those of you who do want one!!!

really joey wow i didnt know that no wonder why a few hens that i got from you didnt want to sit on their first batch lol thats why my dad call you about that problem i think a few months back haha well now i know why but since then they all had their first batch of chicks with the coco pop rooster
