San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hello everyone,

I have been super busy lately, so have not been around on this forum for a while. That does NOT mean I am not into chickens anymore, even though I have not hatched any newbies this year, but I am just at my limits (plans for 2012 though....

Haha, Perchie Girl: I have heard you were talking about me (Rita...., love that store!!!)
Psycho Chicken: It was a pleasure to meet you this week. Next time you come by my house I need to show you all my chickens...
Chef Glenn: Let me know, whenever you are coming to town. Would love to buy some nice fresh roasted coffee for Christmas........

Warm wishes to everybody for a wonderful Holiday Season.

LOL Isnt Rita a HOOT. She got Mazui Gamebird in for me. It took a while but my Guineas are finally eating it. I am already noticing a drop in their regular feed. FWIW Mazuri mixed with maintenence at a ratio of one to ten..... one gamebird to ten mantinence makes them less hungry all the time. Because the Mazui has micro nutrients and nutrition designed for bug eaters. (because I wont free range yet)

You can supplement chickens with it as well. 10 percent. Its pricey at 22 bucks for 40 lbs but I expect the bag will last me a good six months.

Though I dont know if it is Organic. Its not something I need. I just wanted good nutrition.

Well, I still have both my boys as I don't have the heart to give them up just yet. I haven't witnessed any double-teaming since that one day. I saw Bridget submit to alpha boy Wickham so that makes me feel a little better. She has some slight wounds to her head and comb but they don't seem to bother her. One of my young girls laid her first little blue egg yesterday so now she is also getting attention from the boys, giving Bridget a bit of a rest. I really do think Wickham has potential. When the young one Lizzie was in the nest box, he stood right at the door, looking very concerned. Plus, he's doing the treat call now.

Oh, I've also set up a separate pen in case the boys need a time out. I hope I don't have to give them up.

Just curious, if you separate the roos from the flock and each other after they've been together, all getting along...do they remember each other and just fit right back without any issues, or is it like meeting someone new all over again?

I'm going to have way more roos than I need . . . looks like I'm getting 5 cockerels and 3 pullets right now....Oh please, let that change!!! This is one time in my life where I don't mind if I'm wrong.

KKH sorry to hear about the "potential" number of males ! And to answer your question, there is always at least a bit of bickering when the birds are shuffled around. Maybe they do remember but they still want everyone to remember, "Who is boss".
