San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I'm not sure why I'm even going to ask you enablers this question, but oh well...

I've been saving eggs from my new Marans girls, and I'm thinking about firing up the incubator soon. I keep thinking that if I'm going to set these eggs, why not throw in a few more. (Right? Right.) I need to figure exactly what I should stick in there. Anybody care to help?

To sum up: WHITE, LIGHT BLUE, BLUE, BLUE/GREEN, GREEN, OLIVE, BROWN, DARK BROWN, DARKER BROWN. Are there any other colors I'm missing?

I like chickens who are pretty to look at as well as giving me a wide variety of colors in my egg basket. What would you add? Are there any breeds out there that throw a speckled egg consistently?

My Splash Andalusian's eggs actually look pink sometimes, and I have a hen that I have no idea what she is. I got her from Kev and she was possibly an olive egger but her eggs actually come out looking purple. They turn brown if they get wet and they have speckles. Also my Red Star lays a reddish-brown egg sort of sienna color I guess? And my Delaware just started laying here, hers are speckled too (not 100% it's her but I was never getting speckled eggs like that before). Don't Welsummers lay speckled eggs? I thought I heard that somewhere.

Sorry I totally missed this post - I'm in Poway... I'm willing to drop the price if you take 10 or more!

Darn that's about 65 miles from me

Can some of you help me out I have about 30 birds 2-3 months old out of heat lamp there from Phage her project birds I only want 5 dollars each and there out of heat lamp ill do 4 dollars each if you take 5 or more. They took over my serama grow out pen!!! Some are crested some are silkied HELP

With my current broody, I gave her about a week to see if she was *really* serious. (She's my only laying Black Copper Marans, and I was missing those deep, chocolate eggs.) I gave in, moved her to private quarters and let her have six random eggs. (None of them are hers, which is kind of funny to me.) Miss Amelie is as serious as a heart attack, and is in that classic stoner trance. If all goes well, she may be hatching some of her own little fluffy butts on the 28th-29th.

"Go away, or I will bite your finger off."

If you don't mind some more chicks, watching a mama and her babies is a very neat thing. (The photo ops will be outstanding, too...)

Thanks for all the well-wishes for my aching, old and somewhat decrepit body. I can't believe how one slip has thrown me for such a loop!

She is gorgeous Dana ! I want some of her eggs to hatch...............please please!

Just rescued a baby bunny from a park. Obviously a domestic bunny who has been around people. Black with droopy ears. It took a while to catch the critter (it would let you get close, but not close enough). It appears to be in really good condition, so it hasn't been out there long. I hate that people would drop off a baby bunny to fend for itself.

Yes, the park has wild rabbits, but that doesn't mean a young domesticated rabbit can survive.

I don't intend to keep her/him (one of my dogs has a thing for bunnies - a serious serious thing) but this is a darn cute bun bun.
