Sapphire Gem thread!!!!

Eating with one of her new flock mates !

Just found this thread! New to sapphire gems, but currently have 4 chicks aged about 9 weeks. I enjoy seeing all the pictures! Mine already have four very different personalities! 😅 One thinks I'm her dust bath and immediately climbs into my lap to do that when she's allowed to.

I do have one question... With roosters, would the barring be evident by this age? I have one chick that is just...built different. This chick was very late to get wing and tail feathers, is more standoffish than the others (though still sweet), has a more upright stance and we joke that it looks like it spends a lot of time at the gym 😅. Very sturdy and muscular, legs and feet a bit bigger than the others (not wildly so) but no barring and so far feathers seem very similar to the others in terms of coloring. Comb and wattles also look on par with the others. Do I just have a jacked pullet? I did not notice any white spot when I got the chicks.
What color was he as a chick? if he was dark gray with dark legs it is a female. If it was a lighter gray with yellow legs and a white spot on the head, it is a male.
That's so adorable that one of yours tries top dust bathe on you:lau🥰

We got 3 at the beginning of May along with two RIR. I just love them, here are some pics ❤️. Will include all 5 of them. The last one is same as pic above it just showing that there is some orange-gold color coming in on that one too.

Thank you! ❤️ not yet for eggs, I’ve been marking down how many weeks they are so tomorrow they’ll be 14 weeks 🙂 have two buffs that are now broody, sapphire splash girl is older and doesn’t lay anymore. So we only have the one non broody buff still loyal to it right now. Hopefully the new five start soon :)

Also we named the darker Rhode rusty and lighter one is Cinnamon 🙂 and one of the sapphire gems had white on her feathers so we named her Angel. Still figuring out names for the other two.

Such cute names! They fit them really well. Good luck finding names for the others!:D I bet you'll think of names soon as their personalities grow and you'll find what names fit them.

Are you letting your girls sit? I heard that buff orps make great mamas:) How old is your sapphire splash? I have an EE that's 4 and still laying🤔 Is that normal?🤨 My sapphire gems lay giant brown eggs. Well, one does, but her daughter who is way smaller than her lays small skinny eggs. I guess it depends on the bird?

No we don’t have a rooster so my buff’s are sitting in nests that don’t even have any eggs. We honestly were going to get eggs because one of them was broody before but then she got out of it, and we didn’t know if she’d take them then, so we ended up getting the new five and then the buffs decided to go broody after the babies are too big to give them. Also my splash is 4, got those in 2020, they hatched that July the label said. The gem with bright red comb and wattles was squatting today when I went to touch her also. 😄 yay 🥚

The buff that went broody first this time has started mounting the other two also 🤦🏻‍♀️ my one girl’s back feathers look horrible now and some are missing cause she was the main one that kept getting mounted but it looks like they’re growing back.
