Ah, this is the crux of it. I would never deny that we can stage a turnaround. Just do not see any sign that it is happening.

So many of these political and economic conversations actually boil down to overpopulation. But somehow that bottom line does not usually seem to come up.

to both of you

Maybe the three of us should try to take over the world.

No, sorry, too old, too much work.

First of all, your link did not work.

Second, the basic problem is not American pollution, although that is obviously unacceptable. The basic problem is overpopulation, which is global.

But really. Seriously. What you're saying is that the government should be in control of how many human beings are being brought into the world? I want four kids but the government should be able to dictate otherwise?

Naw, I'm good. Thanks. =]

???

Free birth control/sterilization being available is hardly the same as being required. Of course it should be available, for free, worldwide, IMO.

I'll go a step further. Before you can recieve any social services benifits (foodstamps, medicaid, housing assistance) a drug test and birth control should be required. No, I'm not saying the govt should require birth control for everyone, only for those needing assitance.

As for the global warming, there is every bit as much evidnece out there to show that the earth is actually heading into a global cooling cycle. Just google global cooling, you'll see.

There are many peer-reviewed scientific journals that explain (in great detail) global climate change as well as the various cycles that our planet experiences. Both occur for various reasons...some regularly, others are triggered by some cause. Many of these respectable journals; however, are not accessible for free on the internet. But if someone truly wants the facts, the journals are available for free at any university library. If you have a child, cousin, etc in college, chances are they have university library access online and they can access articles from their home computer. As a geologist, I have read many of these articles and I do accept that we are experiencing global climate change. Global warming is a misnomer since many places will become colder, while others become warmer. It is more of an increase in climate extremities caused by higher ocean temperatures and increased fresh water into our oceans, which affects the salinity in the ocean.

With that being said, there are groups in every category that are extremists and twist facts to their own benefit. Both sides need to be careful of the "facts" that one is reading. In general, making changes that can better our society is not a bad idea...ever. So moving forward and improve our technology will help us regardless of what ones views are on global climate change.
