I'm thinking it definitely depends on what kind of gum it is. I'd consider Bazooka and Double Bubble more of a candy just because of the high sugar. Like if the kids wanted a piece of candy for dessert, those would count as candy. But if was Orbit or Trident, for example, those would not be considered candy.
 
In North America, candy is a broad category that includes candy bars, chocolates, licorice, sour candies, salty candies, tart candies, hard candies, taffies, gumdrops, marshmallows, and more.

There is no mention of bubble/chewing gum in any of the 'candy' definition sites I found.

So I am definitely going to say no its not candy

I don't know who I am siding with here Rob, but who ever said that Double Bubble and Bazooka is candy is absolutely correct. It's chock FULL of sugar!

Although, I would classify Trident sugarless with xylitol as non-candy.

Clear as mud!
