Saxony Duck Thread!

Hiya all:p was just wondering if anyone know what to do/ what I can do with Reggie... I can pick iyla up she will make a lil fuss then normally is fine will sit/lay/cuddle with me but reggie, as soon as you go near him he runs away doesn't want you picking him up, when you do pick him up he just goes crazy won't stop flapping for ages and keeps trying to either peck at hand or up your sleeve or goes for your face, he literally flaps so much and try's to get away he scratches and draws blood... any advise on how to possibly calm him down or be abit more friendlier?? X

How old is Reggie I can tell you most ducks do not like to be picked up and will fight to try and get away. Most of us have to just be happy having them hang out with us but don't force holding since it isn't their thing.

You could try backing off and start slowly offering some dried meal worms do this for a while daily till you have tossed them closer to you everyday probably won't be long till he is eating out of your hand but your going to have to earn his trust again by not trying to hold him.

Theyre both 8weeks old and i did think that but just wondered why hes like it and she isnt aha, and they do come up to me to eat out of my hand but he will only come for a couple then run away so i toss some over to him and he will eat them still

From my experience, most drakes aren't friendly. I used to have 5 drakes and none of them were overly friendly. They were also causing severe injury to my hens, except for the blue swede drake who I was hoping to keep before he died of a sudden heart attack when he was less than a year old. The other four I gave away. My hens are now so much happier, but three of my bantams are still on the road to recovery from bare backs and one got severe conjunctivitis from gang mating.
