So I have a question for you saxony owners I am wanting to pick another breed of duck to add to my flock. So far I have medium size ducks. Cayuga , welsh harlequin, white layer. What are the pros and cons for saxonies? Are they loud? Are they skittish? Are they friendly? What colors of eggs do they lay?

What are the pros and cons for saxonies? Are they loud? Are they skittish? Are they friendly? What colors of eggs do they lay?

The eggs I get from my gals tend to be off-white, I've not gotten any other colors from any of my Saxonies, but I'm not sure that that's a hard a fast rule.

I have one gal who is loud. Especially if I'm sleeping in and she wants out in the morning. Most of my flock I raised from ducklings, they've settled in nicely and while they aren't super fond of anyone walking right up to them, they also run right up to the door when they're looking for food even if the dogs are out.

I've had my fair share of unfriendly drakes, but I think that has more to do with when/how they were raised. Later season hatchlings tend to be less socialized than early season hatchlings solely due to the number of ducklings I have (early, if I have 10, then those 10 spend a lot of time with me.. then I hatch 10 more.. but now I have 20.. so the second set of 10 spends less time. And so on.) my ladies tend to be somewhat standoffish if but not unfriendly.. and I've only had two ducks ever that couldn't be won over with a handful of peas.

All my saxonies are very friendly( Ive only got four, so I spend a lot of time with them), and not very loud unless they see me coming with the food bowl. Then they quack loudly a couple times, and settle down pretty fast.
I havnt gotten any eggs yet(

still none dotknott!! so annoying) so I cant tell you about that

Today I went to stir up the deep litter in the Saxony house, and I found buried treasure!!! !8 eggs! I water tested them, and they all look good too. Must be coz of the cold weather and all. I'm so happy and surprised!!

I never thought they would start in the middle of winter, so I wasnt even checking. Now I'm tryin to guess whos laying
