scalped duckling :(

Yeah, no trouble eating or drinking as far as I can tell. Definitely getting good nutrition as it's growing like a weed! It's like just the end of its bill is curved up or something, I dunno.
I think the vet just mentioned antibiotics as a CYA. I study its little head at least twice a day when I do the neosporin, looking for any changes, good or bad.

It finally looks like it's starting to heal! IMG_20180810_234534.jpg
Also, I'm starting to think that one of the mallards is not the daddy after all, but Tony, my buff, instead. It's got an awful lot of light coloring areas all over, and man is it getting big fast! IMG_20180810_161222_01.jpg IMG_20180807_224649.jpg

Baby duck is still doing great! Skin has covered between its eyes... not sure if the hole on top has actually closed any or if it just looks smaller because baby-duck has grown SO much!

At 4.5 weeks old and no sign of girly honks, I'm starting to think it's a boy though. Still holding out some hope for another week or two...
I want to keep this updated, not only for folks who might care to know what happens, but for anybody searching the forum for help/advice/hope in the future. I saw another thread where weeks later the baby was doing well but they never said whether it healed up completely or not.

Please do continue the updates I'm still following :)

Thanks for the update! It's not because the duck is growing, it's because the skin is regranulating, and it's healing. It's just a slow process, so keep applying the ointment, and give it more time. It won't be that much longer, now that you're seeing some improvement.
